Melodious Junkie Talk: Tulsa, OK-Paul Benjaman Band CD Release @ Historical Cains Ballroom

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

ami-blog-pic-4-10-09 melodious-junkie-talk2 Paul Benjaman Band is the epitome of redefining the Tulsa Sound, not by changing it, rather evolving it. Their mission statement simply put is “To create music that everybody can enjoy”. They achieve this mission with their original music by combining the legendary “Tulsa Sound” with Western Swing, Modern Funk, Bebop, and Reggae. I personally would like to throw psychedelic, which by definition according to Wikipedia is the term derived from the Greek words ψυχή (psyche, “soul”) and δηλείν (delein, “to manifest”), translating to “mind-manifesting”. That is the mind blowing sound of the Paul Benjaman Band.

The sound of the Paul Benjaman Band is among the most soulful in the music industry. Each band member is among the best in the nation, not only in their individual instrumental skills, more importantly on their ability to make it their own. I’ve never seen a band perform so well individually, while creating the Paul Benjaman Band sound. Their individual instrumental sound begins dance with that of their band mates’. The vocals of front man Paul ties these rhythmic tunes into a total euphoric experience. In addition to creating this beatific sound, the entire band has this interaction on stage that not only makes them audibly incredible but even more intoxicating to watch.

Paul Benjaman Band has graced the stages at D-Fest, SXSW, Backwoods Bash, and South 40 Music Fest just to name a few. Best performers from Tulsa, Oklahoma, hands down, or up, however you pleasure tripping the light fantastic.
